HiSpec tanker gets cracked chassis repaired
In this video I repair the chassis on a HiSpec slurry tanker.
The chassis had cracked on both sides where the spring hangers had been welded on, a bit of a poor design and the fact the bar from one side to the other had broken out resulted in there being too much flex.
I gouged out the crack with the plasma and grinder then welded back up. To add extra strength into the area and transfer the load further up into the chassis I cnc plasma cut some plates out, pressed them to shape then weld over the affect area. Gussets from the spring hangers onto the new plates were then welded in. The ends of the old broken tube were cut out and a new replacement tube was welded in.
The same process was then repeated at the back due to cracks starting to emerge there also.
Last job was to weld up a crack that had starter on the end of the tanker where the boom folded up into. This was also plasma gouged out and rewelded with an extra gusset added in.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

In this video me and my dad work on swapping the axles on the farms flatbed straw trailer. We didn’t want to spend too much on job so we tried to do it as economically as possible but still make a good job of it. My dad removes the old axle while I work on fabricating the beam for the replacement bogie axles to pivot on. I flame cut the pivot plates out to help get a good round hole for the pin...
Saving a telehandler bucket from the scrap!

The old floor was cut out with the plasma cutter, the bottom of the sides were also cut out as they were rotten from years of cow muck stuck to them. A new floor was then cut to length and pressed to shape with the press brake. The new floor, sides and bucket edge were then welded in along with 2 gussets that were cnc plasma cut o...
Repairing New Holland baler crankshafts. Part 2

In this video I finished the job of repairing the New Holland baler cranks. Firstly the jig needed line boring to size, to do this I used the new S power line borer. After the 2 end supports were done, I transferred the jig onto the Huron milling machine to bore the centre support to size. This completed the jig. Next up I test fitted the crank into the jig to ensure it fit and also to get some...
Strimech Buckrake gets a set of JCB Q fit brackets

In this video I fit a set of JCB Q fit brackets onto a Strimech Buckrake. Not the most interesting of jobs but one that pays the bills. The buckrake was designed to fit onto the 3 point linkage on a tractor, however, the customer also wanted to be able to use it on their JCB telehandler as well as keeping the option of the 3 point linkage. To do this I drew a set of brackets that would weld ont...
Repairing New Holland baler snapped crankshafts. Part 1

In this video I start the job of repairing 2 baler crankshafts that have snapped. Firstly I start by cutting 2 lengths of 75mm bright round bar to use to make new journals. These are then turned down to size in the lathe with a bigger radius to hopefully improve on the original weak point. The shafts are then parceled up and sent off to be hardened and tempered to match the manufactures specifi...

So, Olly do you have girlfriend, or wife, or friend who might know what she’s / he’s doing with a GoPro? I just thought you’d probably have a whole lot more time for your construction projects if you could actually sleep at night rather than the editing you have to be doing at night.

Two at the same time? Not that strange, one farmer talks to another and “badaboom”’, you have two to do. Chances are good your to cheap buddy you might want to ask. This new mill company should have some recommendations for what insert cuts what the best. Your homework is definitely interesting. Time to do more homework. Alistair123 reads every night. I always wondered why all of CEE’s inserts are screwed on. You just explained it

Before anything else get a paint brush or some kind of brush to clear out all that floc. That stuff will destroy your accuracy along with your tools. That chatter is run out from extending the drive further than you should be. That’s something you need to watch for using your mill. It’s a big deal with lathe work as well. Keep your tools as short as you possibly can. It could already be hurting your mill

Deep weld crack? Isaac from ICWeld has a perfect line for it, “ it’s ok, it means just more welding!”. Olly, that butchered hole is what we call a “mess” over here in the states, I noticed you searching for words. That “weld mess” you cleaned up earlier in the show ? We call that a “pile of shit”. Awful inconsiderate of those clowns to not send both RH and LH bits for your mill work. I’d 😊 send them a letter.

Did I hear snaggy bits? I hate those snaggy bits. Yunno, doubt Kurtis would’ve put this gear back on this tool. He might’ve repaired the gear, maybe. But in all honesty he’d probably try to replace it with original equipment if he could find it, or had it rebuilt by a gear vendor local to Australia. But that wasn’t even a thought for Olly, just flip it and use the good side, that’ll fix this business.

Oliver, you're doing good protecting yourself! My Family owned a small construction company back in the 70/80's and my father was not to be bothered with this "Nonsense"... As He retired, the Grandkids did´nt want to have anything to do with him, as well as most people around him,bc he was always "yelling and shouting "(said the kids). and that made him very salty about them. But the truth was: he had a severe hearing loss and was too stubborn even then to wear an earpiece. He also slipped and cut his thumb off, bc of no correct saw blade protection or non-slippery shoes.. True Story! Its your life, and you want to enjoy it when getting older as well.I am 57 now. And guess what: I am a Carpenter with excellent hearing and ALL of my fingers as well...😉

Again Olly you have -0- reason to justify why you are doing what you’re doing. We’re here because it’s fascinating to watch your achievements. You’re a short-sleeved engineer on a farm, probably grossly under-paid for the miracles you create with the tools you’re provided. Your common sense approach towards fixing problems is so old school your videos could/ should be used in college courses.

Good choice of machine. As you go through the tools throw out the ones that need to be fixed or fix them now so you’ll have the ones you’ll need. You will grow into its capabilities son. Better is always good enough. Make sure the bed is truly leveled in all directions! The accuracy of that floor is subject when a shop is blessed with this kind of tool. With that speed issue . I would suspect your power consumption. I’d think this is worth a good cleaning.

I feel like the cracking wasn’t so much from the 30,000 pounds of liquid manure, but more from the scuffing of the treaded tires when turning. Perhaps a un-treaded tire would allow the chassis to slide rather than induce stress into the suspension.. just a thought..

Great work and ignore the comments from the peanut gallery on balancing this crankshaft, it is a hay bailer running at maybe a couple of hundred RPM and in contact with a variable load, not an F1 engine turning at 20,000 rpm for 30 minutes.

Well, that was a fairly successful 1st test I guess. I’ve never seen Kurtis I’ll that much steel out of his line borer at one time, but he’s doing much bigger things. This will be a learning thing Olly, hit a few trade shows and see what else is out there. Take note of what you’re doing that seems like a stupid step and see if someone has a better idea. Grub screws in general seem “fiddly” to me. You need shorter grub screws to stay inside your bar diameter. Design decent storage for this tool. It’s worthless if it’s not kept complete and cared for. Build yourself some toe clamps for that mill.

May I ask: How do you deal with such customers? I mean If you have no video proof and they dont want to pay what it is needed done ? (sorry this ain't my native Language, idk how to say it better). I found it difficult. And I stopped such jobs bc of that. made enough money, but the constant "Make it cheap but ok "was stressing me out af. At the end this happens: No one askes if the Customer wanted it especially THIS (CHEAP) way,- it all comes down to: "look, this is this Carpenters work, and it aint good"! I hated that. So now I do what I want and sell to everybody that likes my stuff and pays the price. No repairjobs any more. You have my Respect, Mate!
